Former Mobile Commissioner Pleads Guilty to Harrassment, Perjury

BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) -- Former Mobile County Commissioner has pleaded guilty to harassment and perjury charges in connection to the 2010 shooting death of his former mistress.

WALA-TV reports that the 49-year-old Steve Nodine pleaded guilty on Friday. The murder and stalking charges will be dropped in the death of his former mistress Angel Downs, who was found dead from a gunshot wound outside her home in May 2009.

The sentencing for Nodine is expected to be held on Oct. 24.

Nodine's trial had been scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 10. It would have been the second time Nodine went to trial for the murder charge.

In December, the judge declared a mistrial for the murder and stalking charges. Nodine was found guilty of an ethics violation at the time.
