On September 13, 2012 an alert nightshift patrolman was on routine patrol near the intersection of West Main Street and Cherokee Avenue when he noticed the odor of burning marijuana emitting from a maroon Mitsubishi Galant, which was traveling on West Main Street.

The officer observed the vehicle turn north onto Ross Clark Circle and initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle where he contacted the driver, Byron Daniels.

During the investigation, police were unable to locate the burning marijuana which they later learned was thrown from the vehicle prior to the traffic stop; however a search of Daniels revealed two small bags containing cocaine.

Daniels was placed under arrest for narcotics bringing the case to a close.

• Byron Daniels, black male, 22 years of age, of Chickasaw Street was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with a $15,000 bond.
