MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- A 28-year-old Dothan man has been sentenced to nearly 17 years in prison for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and using a telephone to facilitate a murder for hire.

U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins ordered the sentence for Qunicy Jones.

He was one of six Dothan residents indicted last year on charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.

While in jail awaiting trial, he was accused of using the jail phone to try to arrange a hit man to kill an FBI informant in the case. He ended up pleading guilty to both charges.

U.S. Attorney George Beck said the five others indicted in the case pleaded guilty to drug charges earlier. They received sentences ranging from more than two years to 11 years.
