CROSS CITY, Fla. (AP) - A man accused of going on a shooting rampage that left three people dead has pleaded guilty to killing a
north Florida deputy.
As part of a plea deal, 56-year-old John Kalisz pleaded guilty to murder Thursday in exchange for a life sentence. He had been facing the death penalty.
Authorities say Kalisz shot his sister, his niece and two other women in Hernando County in January 2010. The sister, 61-year-old Kathryn Donovan, and one of the other women, 59-year-old Deborah Tillotson, died from their wounds.
Kalisz then fled north, ending up in Dixie County, where authorities say he shot Capt. Chad Reed during a shoot out with deputies.
Kalisz still faces charges for the Hernando County shootings.
