The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) yesterday arrested Shayne Oliver Holmes, 23, of DeFuniak Springs, for charges stemming from two residential burglaries.
The WCSO investigation began April 8 after deputies received information regarding a residential burglary located on Ten Lakes Drive in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. The victim alleged that Holmes may be responsible for the electronics stolen from his home on April 4. WCSO deputies made contact with Holmes who denied knowledge of the burglary.
A second WCSO investigation began May 10 after deputies received information regarding a residential burglary located onPinewood Drive in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. The victim alleged that an unknown person stole electronics, a motorcycle and other miscellaneous items the same day.
WCSO deputies interviewed Holmes at his residence May 13 regarding the second burglary incident and noticed a motorcycle helmet inside his home. Holmes consented to allow deputies to take possession of the helmet. The item’s owner positively identified the helmet May 18.
Deputies executed a search warrant May 24 at Holmes’ residence and recovered stolen items from both burglary cases.
Holmes was charged with two counts of burglary, a second-degree felony and two counts of larceny, a third-degree felony. He was booked into the Walton County Jail.
The investigation is considered active and ongoing and additional charges are pending.
