DeFuniak Springs Juvenile Arrested for Grand Theft

The Walton County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) announces the arrest of Alan Michael Kelly, 17, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., for grand theft and dealing in stolen property. He was arrested July 28.

“This is an excellent example of great teamwork and good old fashioned police work,” said Sgt. James Pitman. “I commend Investigators McCormick, Glenister and Adkinson on their ability to work together to quickly bring this case to a successful close.”

The WCSO investigation began July 24 after investigators received allegations that someone stole four storm drain covers from the Hammock Bay subdivision in Walton County. The theft posed a potential traffic hazard and cost the subdivision approximately $1,000 to replace.

The investigation revealed that Kelly attempted to sell the stolen items to a local metal shop for monetary gain. The stolen items were recovered and Kelly was charged with grand theft, a third-degree felony; and dealing in stolen property, a second-degree felony.

Kelly turned himself in July 28 to the Walton County Jail.
