A Navarre man is charged with Burglary and Grand Theft after an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a complaint of a man pulling on car doors in the parking lot of the Boardwalk on Okaloosa Island the 4th of July.
The deputy who arrested 27-year old Benjamin Graham Stafford says he approached Stafford’s van and saw three purses in the back seat. During his investigation, the deputy also made contact with two victims who advised their purses had been stolen out of their car in the parking lot. They identified two of the purses in Stafford’s van as their property.
In addition, two children in the back of the van also told the deputy Stafford was pulling on car doors and returning with items.
Merchandise inside the purses included cell phones, eyeglasses, and a one-thousand dollar digital camera.
The vast majority of car burglaries in Okaloosa County take place as crimes of opportunity involving valuables left inside unlocked vehicles.
