Canton P.D. Under Investigation for Search Procedures in Missing 7-Year-Old Case


The Canton Police Department is under investigation for how it handled the search for a missing 7-year-old girl who ended up dead.

Mayor Gene Hobgood is calling for an independent review of the investigation into the disappearance of Jorelys Rivera.

Among the concern is criticism that Police Chief Jeff Llance wasn't on scene heading up the search.

Other concerns include the search and clearance of a vacant unit at the river's edge apartments. GBI investigators later determined that unit was the crime scene.

However, Lance says he feels his department did what they should have.

"I feel like I was there when I was needed, and if that's something that needs to be fixed on my part, I'll fix it. If there's things out there, items that we feel need to fixed, we'll fix them."
