Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen announced the arrest of a local man for making obscene phone calls to an employee of a local church.
On February 18, 2011, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the victim.
The victim stated she had received disturbing phone calls of a sexual nature two different times on her work phone.
The first time she received calls were on February 6, 2011.
Because of a technical problem with the voicemail system she was unable to save those calls.
She received obscene calls on her voicemail again sometime after she left work on February 17, 2011, and came back to work on February 18, 2011.
They sounded to her to be the same individual both times.
The phone calls were graphic and threatening to both her and other members of her family.
Investigators with Criminal Investigations were able to record and save the most recent messages.
Further investigation led them to develop Jason Wayne Nelms as a suspect.
Nelms was contacted and came to the BCSO for an interview at which time he stated he did make the obscene phone calls.
He also stated he had never met the victim and never attended the
church, but when calling the church and listening to the church voicemail her name caught his interest. Nelms, DOB 5/2/73, of 1320 Buena Vista Blvd. was arrested and charged with Aggravated Stalking.
