The Bay County Sheriff’s Office responded to 149 Big Oak Lane on April 28, 2011, in reference to a call requesting help for a non-responsive baby.
Deputies arrived to find Anthony Hightower holding the baby.
The child was unresponsive and breathing in a shallow manner.
The deputy also observed the baby’s eyes were dilated and twitching. EMS arrived shortly after deputies and took the baby to a local hospital.
The baby was then sent by life-flight to Sacred Heart in Pensacola where it remains in a life-threatening condition.
Hightower initially told investigators from the Criminal Investigations Division the baby had fallen off the couch on Tuesday, April 26, 2011.
Hightower did not call for medical help until Thursday, April 28. During the course of the investigation, Hightower gave four recorded statements with four different accounts of how the baby was injured. Hightower was arrested and charged with Aggravated Child Abuse.
