Albertville Woman Charged in Grandson's Death

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Albertville police say a woman has been charged in connection with the death of her 2-year-old grandson after driving while under the influence when she ran over the child.

Investigators say the 52-year-old Rebecca Jane Elrod was driving a sports utility vehicle when she ran over Brayden Lucas Daniel on Diane Avenue around 3:29 p.m. Wednesday. The toddler died later that day at Marshall Medical Center South.

Elrod is being held at the Albertville City Jail without bond, and is expected to be charged with criminally negligent homicide, a class C felony.

Authorities are still investigating the incident.

A background check showed that Elrod had three prior arrests for DUIs, but the charges were dropped.
