Alabama Woman Arrested for Falsely Claiming Infant Was Abducted

Thursday, an amber alert was broadcast on News 4 about a missing infant. Police in Fairfield, Ala., say the mother of that child lied about the abduction.

The mother reportedly told authorities that she allowed a Department of Human Resources employee into her home and that employee took the 5-week-old infant.

A few hours later, the baby was back with her family, while the mom was being arrested for filing a false report.

Police say the motive was vengeance. They say the mother was trying to get another woman in trouble.

The baby is now in the custody of child care officials, pending an investigation and placement hearing.

The mother faces a misdemeanor charge of false reporting to a law enforcement officer.
