Dale County Chief Sheriff's Investigator Harvey Mathis says 46-year-old Jeffrey L. Dean was charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals after he showed up to court.

Warrants were filed for Dean last week after deputies said they found three dogs without food or water on May 6 in or around a residence from which Dean was allegedly moving.

The residence is in Headland but within Dale County's limits.

Mathis says the dogs were turned over to Dean's ex-wife.

Do the law enforcement go around and check on peoples pets to see if they have food and water now ? For your infomation, I feed my dogs twice a day. There is never any food left in the dish when they get through eatting. Also they have water but sometimes they will turn over their water . You go and observe that the dogs have No food or water at this mans house and you just arrest this man and say he is being cruel to animals, how can you say that ? You said this man was moving from this house. The dogs might have been monetary without water, doesn't mean he was neglecting them or being cruel to them.

A just punishment would be to do to him what he did to the dogs.
