Ala. Mother Sentenced to Life for Sexual Torture

ATHENS, Ala. (AP) -- An Athens woman has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually torturing and abusing her daughter when she was 6 years old.

Limestone County Circuit Judge James Woodroof Jr. ordered two concurrent life sentences Tuesday for 45-year-old Suzanne Bennison.

She received a life sentence because she had two prior felony convictions.

Bennison's daughter testified at a trial in June where the mother was convicted of the committing the abuse in 2008. The News Courier reports the daughter is now 10 and living in another state.
