An Alabama District Attorney is voicing concerns with the state's new sentencing guidelines.
Etowah County DA Jimmie Harp says they have taken discretion away from judges.
Prior offenses are use of a deadly weapon, and more now factor into whether a defendant receives a prison sentence.
Harp says his main concern is that some defendants who he believes should go to prison, do not because they don't score high enough under the new guidelines.
The new point system is intended to ease over-crowding.
