6 Men to be Arraigned on Hazing Charges at Jacksonville State University

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) -- Six men will be arraigned next month on assault and hazing charges stemming from an incident at Jacksonville State University last year.

A complaint claims that men attempting to join Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity were beaten and forced to drink large amounts of alcohol in November 2011.

The alleged hazing lasted about four hours, and one pledge was hospitalized for 24 days.

The incident resulted in the fraternity being banned from the northeast Alabama campus.

The Anniston Star reports that the men charged in the case are set for an arraignment hearing in Calhoun County on Dec. 20. They range in age from 21 to 24 years old.

All six men are charged with misdemeanor hazing. Four of the six also are charged with assault.
