Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen announced the arrest of three individuals believed involved in a shooting that left one man injured during the early morning hours of March 23, 2011.

At approximately 1 a.m. on March 23, 2011, a nearby BCSO deputy heard gunshots coming from the area of 6205 Thomas Drive. As he approached he saw one car stopped at Crescent Drive and Beach Street and a silver Monte Carlo speeding away. In the car was a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the face and a passenger who told the deputy his “buddy had been shot.” A BOLO was issued for the silver Monte Carlo.

Shortly after, another BCSO deputy spotted the Monte Carlo as it was travelling east on Hathaway Bridge and attempted a traffic stop. The Monte Carlo did not stop and continued over the bridge. The Panama City Police Department assisted in the pursuit down Highway 98 a short distance when the Monte Carlo drove into a parking lot at 4810 Highway 98 and the three suspects got out of the car. The driver of the vehicle, Adair Lyn Brown, immediately gave up and was taken into custody with the help of the Panama City Police Department. The man
believed to be the shooter, Michael Gregory Peoples, and a passenger in the car, Robert Earl Baker, were caught and taken into custody by the BCSO. Peoples resisted the deputy and had to be tasered before being taken into custody.

All three were taken to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. Investigators now believe that the events leading to the shooting began with a drug deal on Front Beach Road between the three suspects and victim Brandon Hart. The suspects wanted to purchase a larger quantity of marijuana than Hart had with him. When Hart took the men to his home to get additional marijuana, the three suspects took it and drove away without paying. Hart initially hung onto their car before falling onto the ground. Hart then got into his vehicle with a friend and pursued the suspects onto Thomas Drive, ramming the silver Monte Carlo from behind as they drove.

That is when investigators believe Peoples took a Taurus PT 40 and shot approximately three times at Hart. Hart was shot once in the face, crashing his vehicle into some bushes and eventually coming to a stop at Crescent Drive and Beach Street.

Hart remains in a local hospital in stable condition. Peoples, 10/21/90, of 1701 Hamilton Avenue, Panama City, was charged with Resisting an Officer without Violence, Violation of Probation, Robbery with a Firearm, Possession of Marijuana over 20 grams, Firing a Weapon into a Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon by Convicted Felon, Failure to Register as a Convicted Felon. Robert Earl Baker, DOB 1/14/89, of 1601 W. 22nd Street, was charged with Resisting an Officer Without Violence, Violation of Community Control, and Robbery with a Firearm. Adair Lyn Brown, DOB 9/6/89, of 1707 Tennessee Street, Lynn Haven, was charged with Fleeing and Eluding Police, Failure to Register as a Convicted Felon, and Robbery with a Firearm.
