On Saturday, May 12, 2012, the Jackson County Drug Task Force attempted a traffic stop on an ATV on Shalimar Road near the intersection of Dellwood Cypress Road near Cypress, Florida. The ATV pulled to the side of the roadway and stopped. Upon the Deputy exiting the vehicle to make contact with the operators, the ATV sped away. The Deputy pursued the ATV on Shalimar Road to the intersection of Highway 90 where the ATV then turned east on the southern shoulder of Highway 90. The ATV traveled a short distance before trying to enter the wooded area on the south side of Highway 90. The operators lost control of the ATV and over turned. The female operator, identified as Martha Elizabeth Shores, of Cypress Florida was taken into custody. The male operator later identified as John Michael Adams of Marianna, Florida, fled the scene on foot. Upon taking Shores into custody a lunchbox was observed lying next to the overturned ATV. The lunchbox contained a One Pot Methamphetamine lab.
Jackson Correctional Institution and Apalachee Correctional Institution canine teams were contacted to attempt to locate and apprehend Adams. The canines were able to track Adams a short distance into the woods where he was located and arrested.
Through further investigation, it was determined that Adams and Shores were riding the ATV in the area while combining the ingredients used in the One Pot Methamphetamine lab. Both individuals were actively taking part in both the cooking process as well as taking turns driving the ATV and both parties had active involvement in fleeing from Deputies.
John Adams and Martha Shores was both transported to and housed in the Jackson County Jail to await first appearance. Adams is charged with Attempting to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Office, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest Without Violence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Shores is charged with Attempting to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, Methamphetamine, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude a Law Enforcement Office, Reckless Driving, Driving While License Suspended/Revoked, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
