Fort Rucker Hosts Veterans as Part of their Annual Celebration

Updated: 11/07/2014 - Service men and women from all five branches, along with their families, gathered at Fort Rucker's Howze Field for the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Friday. They specifically paid special tribute to Tuskegee Airmen and Vietnam veterans. The afternoon included a special display of an AH-64 Apache, CH-47 Chinook and UH-60 Black Hawk, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk, a U.S. Air Force UH-1 Huey and an AH-1 Cobra. Attendees had the chance to take a close up look at the aircraft prior to the ceremony.

UAB cures diabetes in lab mice, preparing for human trial

Posted: 11/07/2014 - A new study at the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center may prove beneficial for thousands of Alabamians. Researchers have cured diabetes in lab mice using a commonly prescribed blood pressure medication, Verapamil. “We found that we could reverse the disease completely,” said Dr. Anath Shalev, director of the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center.

Carroll High Holds Annual Veterans Day for Community Leaders and Student Body

Updated: 11/05/2014 - Carroll High School students and faculty, community leaders and dignitaries from Fort Rucker gathered at the gymnasium for the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday morning. LTC Mark Gillepsie of Fort Rucker was the guest speaker for the event. The CHS Band played TAPS and a collection of military songs for each branch.
