MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Relatives of an Alabama inmate have
filed suit claiming he was beaten to death by a group of corrections officers at a state prison last year.
The state lawsuit filed Wednesday in Montgomery blames Prison
Commissioner Richard Allen and numerous other officials for the
death of Rocrast Mack.
The suit says seven officers hit, kicked and stomped Mack after he was handcuffed and unconscious, killing him.
The lawsuit comes one day after the Department of Corrections
said it had fired two officers over Mack's treatment at Ventress
prison near Clayton, and four others resigned.
Corrections officials say they're asking prosecutors to look into criminal charges in Mack's death.
Prison officials had no immediate comment on the lawsuit. It
seeks an unspecified amount of money.
