Will property taxes in Dothan increase?

The Dothan City Commission is expected to vote to pass the issue to the state legislature Tuesday.

The vote will not make the action law, but it could move the decision a step closer to a vote by residents.

If the measure passes in the city, it must next be approved by the Alabama State Legislature.

“Tomorrow we're voting to pass on to the state to allow a vote by the people for funding for our schools, and this was asked for by our elected school board, and they asked us to move this resolution forward," Dothan Mayor Mike Schmitz.

No specifics have been released on when an election would take place if the measure is passed.

The Dothan City Commission meets at 10 a.m. in the Dothan Civic Center.

Yeah, yall will say we're raising property taxes to have funding for our schools. But if a budget cut comes up, how come the ax always falls on education?Where does the extra tax money go, when yall cut the very thing, that yall raised the taxes for, in the first place? Don't yall think the Alabama tax payers need a straight answer?
