TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities say a miner has been killed in an accident at an Alabama coal mine.
WBRC-TV reports that the death happened Thursday evening at Jim Walter Resources Mine No. 7 in the Brookwood area of Tuscaloosa County.
Dennis Hall, a spokesman for Jim Walter Resources, tells The Tuscaloosa News the accident happened around 6:15 p.m. and involved one miner. He said a medical helicopter was dispatched to the site, in northern Tuscaloosa County near the Jefferson County line.
Hall said state and federal mine safety officials have been notified and will be conducting an investigation along with company and United Mine Workers' safety investigators to determine what happened.
The victim's name wasn't released.
Hall said the company would likely release more information later Friday.
