(MONTGOMERY)—Attorney General Troy King announced that a Birmingham woman will serve time in prison for stealing from Alabama Public Television when she was employed at the APTV Foundation.

Lagina Darice Brown Fulling, also known as Gina D. Brown, today (10/18) was sentenced to 20 years, with the sentence split for her to serve three years in prison followed by five years of supervised probation, and ordered to pay full restitution in the amount of $7,500.

Attorney General King’s Office presented evidence to a Jefferson County grand jury, resulting in Fulling’s indictment* on September 19, 2008. She pleaded guilty in Jefferson County Circuit Court on September 13, 2010.

Brown admitted to first degree theft of a check for $7,500, written from AARP to Alabama Public Television. As an employee of the Alabama Public Television Foundation, Fulling’s duties included soliciting donations. On this occasion, she received the check as a donation for the foundation and deposited the check into her personal checking account.

“It is appropriate that this defendant serve time in prison,” said Attorney General King. “Her crime violated not only the trust of her employer, but also that of the citizens from whom she solicited donations.”

Attorney General King commended Assistant Attorney General Ben Baxley of his Public Corruption and White Collar Crime Division and Special Agent Gene Sisson of his Investigations Division.

He gave special thanks to the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, Sergeant Michael Herren and the Mountain Brook Police Department; and former APT employee John Brady and Alabama Public Television, for assistance in this case.
