UPDATE: Child Endangerment Suspect Arrested

On July 16, 2013 the Dothan Police Department made a felony arrest charging Shameka Sewell with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child after officers arrived at her home to investigate a harassment complaint on July 8, 2013.

Investigators say while speaking with Sewell, officers smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana inside the residence and noticed a cigar believed to be filled with marijuana on a table. Inside of the residence were Sewell’s three children (ages 7, 4 and 10 months), which officer’s state were exposed to the marijuana odor before and throughout their investigation. A case worker with the Department of Human Resources was notified and Sewell’s children were turned over to a relative.

Shameka Sewell’s arrest now brings this case to a close.

• Shameka Nichole Sewell, black female, 25 years of age, of East Burdeshaw Street was arrested and charged with three counts of Chemical Endangerment of a Child. A bond amount has been set, totaling $45,000. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.


A woman is wanted by the Dothan Police Department.

Shameka Nichole Sewell, was arrested on a felony warrant and charged with obstruction of justice after using a false name.

At the time of her arrest, the officer did not charge her with chemical endangerment of a child. The information was passed on to the department’s Juvenile Investigations unit and a three felony arrest warrants were obtained, but before they were executed, Sewell was released from jail.

Sewell is wanted on three charges. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Dothan Police Department.
