CAMDEN, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say the prinicipal of Wilcox
Central High School in Camden has been charged with sexual abuse
for an incident involving a 17-year-old student.
District Attorney Michael Jackson tells WSFA-TV that James
Thomas, a former state representative, was charged with
first-degree sexual abuse. Jackson says more charges may be filed,
but declined to elaborate.
Thomas was being held without bond in the Wilcox County jail.
WSFA reports that Thomas was placed on indefinite administrative
leave. School officials tell the television station that the arrest
was "completely unexpected."
Thomas was elected to the Alabama House of Representatives for
the 69th District in 1982. Thomas failed to win re-election this
