July 4 Events: What's Still Going On

The rain has caused some changes to original 4th of July plans.

Here is a roundup of events that have been cancelled and still going on in the Wiregrass.

Opp’s July 4th Celebration has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 6.
The event will be held at Frank Jackson State Park from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. There will be free hotdogs, watermelon slices and drinks. Park admission will be waived after noon. Visitors are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and other picnic essentials. Alcohol is not allowed. The fireworks show will begin just after dark.

All outdoor activities for Freedom Fest at Fort Rucker have been cancelled. The Fort will make a decision about fireworks at 4 p.m. today. The 98th Army Band will play a concert at the Post Theater at 6 p.m. Doors at the theater open at 5 p.m. and seating is limited. There will also be some limited refreshments available at the concert. If weather permits, fireworks will go off 8:30 p.m.

Fort Gaines fireworks scheduled for tomorrow night is still on.
The rockets will be shot off just after dark on the Walter F. George Dam. You can watch the show from the Army Corps of Engineers.

Panama City's 'Star Spangled Spectacular' has had some changes due to the predicted heavy rains.

The 9 a.m. Veterans Celebration at the Veterans Memorial in Aaron Bessant Park has been cancelled, as has the planned performance by the Panama City POPS Orchestra in the Aaron Bessant Park Amphitheater.

The fireworks displays that were to be launched simultaneously from the City Pier and the County Pier at 9 p.m. on Thursday will instead be launched at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night, but only from the City Pier.

The fireworks show to be launched on Thursday from the Grand Lagoon is still set to proceed as scheduled, but organizers say they'll make the final decision mid-morning Thursday. If it gets postponed, it will likely be rescheduled for Saturday instead.
