AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Thanks to icy weather and the generosity of
an Opelika couple, 81-year-old Dial Gibbs got to watch Auburn
defeat Oregon for the national championship in Glendale, Ariz.
despite not having a ticket.
Gibbs drove from Auburn to Arizona for the game after buying a
ticket for $999 from a ticket outlet. When he arrived in Glendale
he found out there had been a mix up and he did not have a ticket.
The Opelika-Auburn News reports that Gibbs was preparing to
return to Auburn when Dr. Ross Davis and his wife, Catharine, of
Opelika came to the rescue. Their daughter was unable to make the
trip because of icy weather in Alabama. The couple gave their extra
ticket to Gibbs.
