Dothan, Ala.—Wallace Community College and the City of Ozark will sponsor the upcoming 2013 Alabama Community College Conference Baseball Tournament. The tournament will take place Saturday, May 11 through Thursday, May 16 at historic Eagle Stadium in Ozark.
"We are excited about the opportunity to provide top-notch, collegiate athletic competition to the Wiregrass area for another three years,” said Ryan Spry, director, student life. “We are thankful to the City of Ozark for their continued support of this tournament and for the economic development this event affords the local community. Ten baseball teams, staff, friends, and fans will visit Ozark during the double-elimination tournament, which provides an economic boost for the area.
Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell is also pleased at the opportunity to host the tournament. “We are extremely proud that officials with the Alabama Community College System have chosen Ozark and Eagle Stadium as the site for the JUCO baseball tournament. We are honored that they have confidence in the people of Ozark in putting on such a great statewide event. This partnership with Wallace Community College is a tremendous advantage for the people and businesses in our community”, said Blackwell.
Wallace will host a banquet to welcome the participating teams on Friday, May 10 at the Ozark Civic Center. Former major league baseball player Jon Gregory Litton will address the visiting players and their coaches.
The City of Ozark and Wallace Community College won the bid last year to sponsor the tournament through 2015.
