Butterflies could hold the key to improving flight for aircraft.
The University of Alabama will be studying the tiny scales butterflies have on their wings.
Those scales help the creatures stay aloft, despite flying so slowly.
Studies indicate monarch butterflies can fly long distances partly because of their scales.
The study is possible through a $280,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.
