The Southeast Alabama Medical Center has a new piece of art.
Saturday, Birmingham artist Chris Ellis installed "The Tree of Life" in the new Heart and Vascular Center Lobby.
It's part of a new arts program the Medical Center Foundation wants to bring to the community.
The sculpture is made out of sheet metal and it took about 9 months to complete.
Hospital leaders say the tree of life is fitting for the hospital.
"That's really what health care is about. It's about quality of living, extending life, and improving life through health care and wellness. this certainly symbolizes all of that," said Valerie Barnes, Executive Director, SAMC Foundation.
Ellis said, "It's an honor. It's good exposure. It's good giving back and making people feel better hopefully."
The foundation hopes to install more pieces of art like this throughout the hospital.
