The Pre K to K Literacy Transition program is in full swing.

Teachers from three local child care centers spent the day learning how to get their little students better ready for Kindergarten.

Last month, Troy University's College of Education selected three day care centers that serve low income families in Dothan.

Teachers say the structure of the program has already inspired them to implement new activities.

"It's a very structured program and I'm learning a lot from it and I'm excited about helping teach it," ABC Academy Director Yvonne Lee said.

"Adding more science social studies and math to your daily lesson plans with the kids," said Angels Child Care Academy Director Latisha Jones.

"We'll read a story as many as three times sometimes even more," Brenda's Preparatory School Director Brenda Gilford said.

Troy University professors will check-in with the centers monthly and conduct an assessment test with the kids before and after the school year
