Toys for Tots: Record Breaking Need

“For the children's sake. Right now, I'm kind of in and out of work. I need a little assistance. That's what brings me here today,” said Michael Arnold.

Dothan, AL - The Wiregrass Toys for Tots program has accepted the maximum amount of families it can help this year. Now it’s up to you.

Parents entered Dothan’s Head Start auditorium Friday with hopes of a Merry Christmas.

Michael Arnold never thought he would need to ask for help. Now, he's turning to Toys for Tots for one reason.

“For the children's sake. Right now, I'm kind of in and out of work. I need a little assistance. That's what brings me here today,” said Arnold.

In addition to being out of work, the children's mother recently passed away.

That's the story so many are living this holiday season.

“It's going to be December 1st, and all of a sudden you don't the money that you need. You've got to make sure you can pay for your light bill, electric bill and everything else. Toys are the last thing on your mind. That's why we're here,” said Mike Walton, Coordinator Wiregrass Toys for Tots.

In fact, this has been a record breaking year for the charity. The Wiregrass Toys for Tots has signed up 1,000 families, and they are waiting on the final count of how many kids that will be.

You can help by donating new and unwrapped gifts to any drop-off location.

“Picture going underneath your tree and not having something under it Christmas morning, and going back to school and saying I didn't get anything. We don't want that to happen. We want something under that tree,” said Walton.

No matter what you donate, Michael Arnold is only hoping for one thing Christmas morning.

“Happy smiling faces. We appreciate all the help we can get,” he said.

Of course you can always drop off your donations at the WTVY Studios at 285 North Foster Street in Dothan.

You can drop off toys Saturday at Southside Walmart in Dothan.

Next weekend there will be a drop off at the Walmart in Enterprise.
