Tornado Uproots Trees Near Church, Cemetery

Forecasters say they've confirmed that a tornado touched down in Coosa County, where it uprooted pine and oak trees.

The National Weather Service said early Tuesday that the tornado touched down near Shady Grove Church in Coosa County shortly before 5 a.m. Monday.

A report from the weather service states that the twister uprooted trees near Shady Grove Cemetery, then uprooted some large pine trees as it crossed County Road 14.

The tornado was an estimated EF-0 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale used to rate the strength of tornadoes.

The weather service had issued a tornado warning for Coosa County around 5 a.m. Monday. The warning was later allowed to expire when the storm weakened below severe limits.

Coosa County is about 60 miles southeast of Birmingham.
