The Horse Who Got A Second Chance

"When we first got Chelly she was really quiet, I know that's crazy to say but she was just sad. She didn't do a whole lot, she did not interact with the others at all, and she was a loner. Now she's really vocal, she's really sassy she loves kids."

Lori Woodham is talking about a horse.

"She came from a hoarding case so the lady had 9 or 10 horses in a 2 acre backyard. She was skin and bones."

Four months after being rescued, Chelly has her health back.

"They don't have anybody that cared enough to feed them or give them any attention. I love being able to see them come out of that, that's the best part for me. Of course I get emotional when they leave but we make sure they go to good homes."

In the past two years, the Wiregrass horse sanctuary has helped in more than 60 rescues.

They currently have ten horses and five more in foster care.

"I'm going to get a new one today, she's not very excited to share *neigh*."

Friday's rescue isn't the only thing that's new. The sanctuary is moving to Bethlehem Road in midland city.

Chelly is going to need your help, they have more than 60 acres of land here and they're going to need volunteers to get everything up and running.

"When you come out, you're coming out because it's something your passionate about and you want to help these animals that have been abused."

They need volunteers for manual labor and to help take care of the horses.

The new location brings hope for the future.

They hope to eventually create a community outreach program to help prevent more cases like chelly's.

"We want to educate people and show people that they don't have to let a horse get down to where they are when we have to step in. People will reach out and there's people that will help, you just need to ask for help."

You can help by adopting or donating your time or money.
