Enterprise Parks and Recreation Director Billy Powell announced this week that an extensive rehabilitation and resurfacing project is under way on the Donaldson Park tennis courts.
Work began earlier this week on the lower, four-court enclosure at the park. The two courts on the upper level will remain open for the next four to six weeks as work is completed on the first part of the project. When the resurfacing is complete on the first four courts, those courts will be opened for play and the two upper-level courts will be closed until the total project is finished.
In addition to the courts at Donaldson Park, the city has two more courts behind the Recreation Center at 421 East Lee Street that can be used.
“Please pardon our progress,” Powell said. “Once this project is completed, we will have some extremely nice courts that provide a great playing surface.”
The Premier Courts surfaces are being laid by American Tennis Courts Inc. Some repairs were made on the courts last fall, but circumstances beyond the city’s control had delayed the extensive resurfacing project until now.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience,” Powell said. “If you have any questions about the opening of the courts, contact me at the Enterprise Parks and Recreation Department at 334-348-2684.
