TALLASSEE, Ala. (AP) - The Hotel Talisi, which was nearly destroyed by fire a year ago, is being rebuilt.
The Nov. 30, 2009, fire originated at a nearby consignment store and quickly spread to the three-story hotel. More than 150 firefighters from 22 fire departments converged on downtown Tallassee to fight the blaze.
Wylie Troupe, one of three owners of Hotel Talisi, says the rebuilding process began in September.
Troupe says all 154 windows of the 68-room hotel that has served as the unofficial hub of downtown Tallassee since 1928 have been replaced. He says he hopes the restaurant can reopen by June.
