When checking in at a hospital it's priority for nurses to check your vitals, it's just as important for you to communicate.
"Communication is vital to ensure that the patients do well not only while they are here in the hospital but they understand exactly what they need to do to take care of themselves and their family whenever they leave the hospital, " says Dan Cumbie, Chief Nursing Officer at Flowers Hospital.
It's a simple process that could make a difference once you are treated and released.
"Its very important for nurses and staff members to communicate with patients and patients to communicate with us because it plays a big role in their care and their recovery," says Casey Haney, RN and Nurse Director at Flowers Hospital.
"They can do that by making a list, we have boards in the room that they can write questions on, just not being afraid to bring something up to us, how big or small to them because it is important for their care."
"Write down those thoughts as they have them, in between when the physician may be coming to see them, I think that just helps them organize and confine some of their thoughts, we also encourage the family to do that as well," says Cumbie.
You can also connect with the medical staff by taking their surveys or just giving your feedback. Its more important than you may think.
It allows us the opportunity to identify areas we need to improve upon as well as it allows us to recognize those staff members the patients mention, that do a good job," says Cumbie.
Cumbie also says its important for family to be apart of the conversation and have an open line of communication as well.
