Studies indicate every 14 minutes; someone loses their life due to suicide.
Those who have been affected in the Wiregrass wanted to come together to make sure this doesn't continue to happen.
Friends and family members gathered in Poplar Head Park in honor of world suicide prevention day.
Everyone had a candle in hand and lit them in unison to join people around the world who were fighting the cause.
A number of people in attendance shed tears while they shared memories about the people they lost and stated how important it is to know that suicide is preventable.
Alot of people don't realize you know how big suicide really is until you lose somebody from suicide. I think it's important to recognize such a cause because it's something that happens everyday all day. It's one of the most common things that happen in Alabama especially," said Helen Hinson.
The Wiregrass Suicide Prevention Center asks if you or someone you know is dealing with suicidal issues to contact their office. Their number is 334-792-9814.
