Eufaula City School Leaders want parents and community members to be involved.
“We find people don’t really know what’s going on in schools unless they’re there,” says Mitzi Clayton, the public information liaison for Eufaula City Schools.
Eufaula City School leaders got parents and community leaders there for a tour.
“This is a brief overview of everything that goes on in Eufaula City Schools,” says Clayton.
They visited each school in the system checking out students and teachers at work as well as speaking with principals and the superintendent.
Clayton says, “We need community and parents support. We want them to be involved in their child’s education. We know that education is what makes economic development.”
“I have four children and we are relatively new to the community,” states Melissa Hulsey.
Hulsey took the tour today, and says she was pleasantly surprised.
She says, “The use of technology is a lot more prevalent than I may have thought walking into the situation. The kids all seemed to be very happy at the elementary school. They seemed very engaged.”
Parents and community members have been walking the halls of Eufaula City Schools for about 7 years now taking these tours. School leaders say they’ve really made a difference.
“We have had people come in and talk about technical programs that was needed for industry and that was started at our high school,” says Clayton.
It looks like these system-wide tours are here to stay.
These aren’t the only tours available.
Administrators say you can have a more in-depth tour at any school in the system.
