DOTHAN, AL -- It's the first time that local residents can purchase alcohol on a Sunday.
Store owners said that most people came out not because they wanted to drink, but because they wanted to exercise their new right to buy on a Sunday.
People can now purchase alcohol beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Sundays. Before the law passed, restaurants were the only place to buy alcoholic beverages.
Residents said they don't anticipate any drastic changes.
"Actually I don't see what the difference is. It's saturday, sunday, it doesn't really matter. If you want it, you're going to get it right," Kevin Cureton said.
Some residents say they still oppose the decision to sell alcohol on a Sunday. They fear it will change the town for the worst, and may result in more drunk driving.
