Tuesday morning SARCOA hosted a Benefits Enrollment event at the Geneva Senior Center.
"I love coming here. I'm a widow and I stay at home by myself, this gives me some place to go," Geneva resident Bertha Jordan said.
SARCOA does assessments by asking senior citizens different questions about their needs, what they're possibly getting now from any programs and their income.
"Most of these people here are either on disability, or they have Medicare or they may have Medicare and Medicaid. With this assessment program we can put the information into the computer and it helps us determine exactly what other programs they may be eligible for," Program Coordinator Judy Short said.
They visit senior centers to make it convenient and to further help seniors apply for those programs.
"They may need special help with having meals delivered to them, they may need help with their light bill, or a special repair for their home. They also may need food stamps and don't know how to go about applying or filling out an application," Short said.
Short says these applications can be confusing, especially with how many programs there are out there.
"Because there are so many programs out there and each program has their own requirements, it is confusing for our seniors especially to go and find the programs that they are eligible for," Short said.
And the seniors in Geneva appreciate the help.
"It's just a great place to come and great place to be and SARCOA's great, it helps us," Jordan said.
"This is an ongoing service. It doesn't just happen one or two days a year we do this all the time," Short said.
