Snow Hurts N. Alabama Crop

A recent snowstorm that collapsed greenhouses in northern Alabama has forced Birmingham restaurants to find new produce suppliers.

Gadsden farmer Rod Palmer says eight inches of snow piled on his greenhouses causing them to collapse.

Normally, Palmer says oil heaters melt the snow but the heaters could not keep pace.

His farm delivers produce to several Birmingham restaurants.

Now those eateries are scrambling to find substitute providers.
