SHELBY COUNTY, AL - A 21-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping and terroristic threats after police say he held a group of middle school students at gunpoint.
Authorities say Ryan Matthew Sims stormed into Chelsea Middle School in Shelby county Tuesday afternoon and held a group of girls at gunpoint in a locker room. The school went into lockdown and a sheriff's deputy talked Sims into letting the girls go and surrendering within about 20 minutes.
Authorities say no one was alarmed when Sims walked into the school because he once worked there as a part-time summer employee.
Sims is being held on $5 million bail in the Shelby County Jail. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
