September is National Preparedness Month and the middle of hurricane season.
"The thing we are always concerned about is if we haven't had a hurricane yet that people get complacent so we like to make sure people remain prepared and people have a kit in their house ready to go to supply themselves for 72 hours because a lot of times it takes that long to get us going and get all the equipment to them to provide them for some help," said James Brown, deputy director of the Coffee County Emergency Management Agency.
The kits should have food, water, clothes, flashlights, a radio, medications and important paperwork.
Hurricanes are not the only thing people should be prepared for.
"Well in this area we are kinda lucky we will probably just have some real strong straight lined winds but the thing we are worried about are tornadoes so the main thing we tell people is to have a weather radio ready programmed so they can hear what is going on and they can know what is happening in their area," said Brown.
Radios aren't the only thing that will alert you.
"We have 27 sirens in Coffee County," said Brown. "The first thing when you hear a warning sirens is to seek shelter; we only set those off when there is actually a tornado warning when we have seen a tornado in the area so if you hear those sirens wee recommend that you take shelter immoderately."
Coffee County will have their Emergency Preparedness Fair and "Safety Saturday" On September 7th, from 10-2 at Johnny Henderson Park in Enterprise.
