James Derrick Edmonson has stage 4 colon cancer.

His family has organized the "River Run for a Cure" benefit.

It will be Saturday, March 15th, at 9 a.m. at Omussee Creek park in Columbia.

Boats will ride from Columbia to Fort Gaines and back.

Registration is $20 per boat.

You can also buy chicken plates and win prizes including tickets to Talladega and the Toadlick Music Festival.

"I think the community needs to come together and support all of our local families. Its just something to help with the awareness and to get the word out, " says Kim Bowen, cousin of the cancer victim.

If you'd like to help the Edmonson family, donations can be made at People South Community Bank in Columbia.
