It’s been years in the making, but today the Vaughn Blumberg center in Dothan opened a new gym.
A ribbon cutting ceremony started the event.
Officials with the center say Wednesday is a day that will change the future for their residents.
The center provides services to those who have intellectual disabilities, and a gym to play in is something they've wanted for years.
"The individuals we serve want and need recreational facilities, programs, or services. This is going to offer them that ability every day, seven days a week, weekend nights the whole nine yards." Executive Director of the Vaughn Blumberg Center Ed Dorsey said.
Officials say it took more than 8 years of savings to build the gym
They say it would not have been built as quickly without the help from the city the county and the community.
