The question is still up in the air, will Dothan residents soon be allowed to buy alcohol on Sundays?

Tuesday city commissioners heard from residents who say they don't want alcohol to be sold on Sundays.

Commissioners also voiced their thoughts.

"It puts our business community at a disadvantage when the surrounding communities are allowed to sell beer after 1 p.m.," said Dothan city District one Commissioner James Reading.

"I Think It's A Good Idea To Allow The People To Decide," said Commissioner Newsome.

"I ask you guys to do your homework and don't operate out of emotions and you'll find out alcohol is very costly in every direction," said a local pastor.

Commissioners can't make the final decision.

They must have a referendum and let the public vote during elections.

Commissioners will vote on whether to hold a referendum at their next meeting.
