WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Martha Roby (R-AL) will discuss Republicans' efforts to improve the lives of working families when she delivers the Weekly Republican Address to a national audience on Saturday, May 11. The Working Families Flexibility Act, sponsored by Rep. Roby and passed by the House on Wednesday, allows private-sector employers to offer employees the opportunity to accrue paid time off or “comp time” in exchange for working overtime.
“I’m honored to address the American people on behalf of my fellow Republicans in Congress and discuss how applying commonsense, conservative principles can help working Americans in their everyday lives,” Rep. Roby said. “As a working mom, I understand how hard it is for parents to balance the demands of work and family. The Working Families Flexibility Act will help make that balance easier by giving Americans more freedom and more flexibility with their time at work.”
This is Rep. Roby’s second time this year to deliver the Weekly Republican Address, and third time since taking office in 2011. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) praised Rep. Roby’s work to pass the Working Families Flexibility Act, saying her leadership as a working mom in Congress makes her an ideal messenger to the nation on Mother’s Day Weekend.
“For Americans working harder to make ends meet and still make time for their families, the Working Families Flexibility Act is designed to provide more flexibility and make things a little easier,” House Speaker John Boehner said. “Martha Roby has shown outstanding leadership to get things done on behalf of working families , and I can think of no one better to bring our message to the American people on Mother’s Day weekend.”
