(Dothan)--David Morland is just one golfer excited about the upcoming changes coming to the Dothan National Hotel and Golf Club.

"They've got a very nice hotel, it just needs to be updated, and brought up to par," Morland said.

Developers from minnesota bought the property. They plan to start construction within the next 90 days.

"The existing hotel will be grazed, we'll rebuild, and reposition the property to focus on sports, spa and health," Developer Michael Elzafon said. "Everyone on is this project is hoping to bring the property back to it's former glory," he said.

Developers said they will bring in a design team and even financial experts turn the current property into a first-class resort. They hope the updated resort will bring sporting events to Dothan, create new jobs and even help boost the local economy.

"These projects are very substantial in their economic impact ," Elzafon said. "Our project will probably create more than 50 jobs, and hopefully our hotel will become a go-to place for any kind of social event in the local community, " he said.

Developers plan to start construction this summer and hope the new resort will be open by january of next year.

I understand they are investing $1,000,000.00 in the golf course alone. This does not include any equipment or buildings. Let's be positive about this and greet the new owner/investors southern style.

How many times have I heard this story. I noticed there was not any mention as to the golf course itself. I believe it has the potential to be an excellent course if someone with money really wanted to make the investment. I wont however hold my breath on this one........sorry.
