Rabies In Dale County

There is a confirmed case of rabies in Dale County.

The Dale County Health Department tested a raccoon positive for rabies after being found in Level Plains. A lady saw the raccoon in her backyard off of Phyllis Avenue.

Rabies is not common in the county, there was only one case for all of 2012. And Level Plains hasn’t seen a case in more than 8 years.

Stanley Gatlin, Level Plains Water Dept. said, “They advised us just to warn everybody that they need to make sure their animals are vaccinated and if they see any animals acting strange please call down here to town hall. And we will check it out as soon as we can.”

If you think you see a rabid animal call the Level Plain’s City Hall at (334) 347-0422. Rabies is considered a fatal virus once symptoms appear.
